The formal ribbon-cutting ceremony was officiated by City of Ekurhuleni Councillor Khehla Madlala on opening day, Thursday 22 October 2026. The ceremony commenced Rondebult Shopping Centre’s opening celebrations, taking place over its first two weekends of trading, and including activations, a DJ, community performances, a dance-off competition, children's colouring-in and popcorn, and much more.

Rondebult Shopping Centre is a new retail and community destination in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni, conceived and developed by retail strategist Retail Network Services (RNS). The centre is designed to serve the Rondebult community through a carefully curated tenant mix, family-friendly facilities and welcoming communal spaces. It is built to be a gathering point, delivering the vision for a place where the community can shop, connect and spend time together.

More choice close to home

Attracting leading national and local retailers to Rondebult, the centre is 100% let at opening, with the majority of tenants new to the area. Shoprite, a familiar presence in Rondebult, anchors the grocery offering alongside Boxer and Rondebult Meat Market, giving shoppers a range of convenient options close to home.

A diverse fashion offering complements the retail mix, while the food court — with its dedicated children's play area, amphitheatre and large screen — offers a welcoming social space for families and neighbours.

In addition, local businesses such as Mnandi Braai and The Lume Lab, form part of the opening line-up, reflecting RNS's deliberate effort to include tenants that speak to the character of the local community.

Gavin Tagg, CEO of RNS, says, "Rondebult Shopping Centre has been developed with the community at its heart. We have carefully curated a strong tenant mix that reflects the needs and preferences of local residents, while creating a welcoming space that offers more than just shopping. From the food court and children's play area to the amphitheatre and big screen, every element has been designed to bring people together.

Tagg adds, “Our vision is for the community to take pride in the centre and truly feel that this is their place. We believe we are bringing a shopping and lifestyle experience to Rondebult that sets a new standard for the area, giving residents more reasons to shop, connect and spend time closer to home."

A solar power plant forms part of the centre's infrastructure, supporting a more energy-efficient and environmentally conscious shopping environment.

The developer also funded and completed new road infrastructure, with easy access to the centre for shoppers arriving by car or public transport. “Our investment extends beyond the centre itself to improve access for the community,” says Tagg.

A new chapter for local landmarks

Looking ahead, the Vegieland Centre, which is part of the original site and formerly housed Shoprite, will be integrated into the broader Rondebult Shopping Centre development and accommodate a flagship Build it store.

The Rondebult Flea Market, which has traded in the area for many years and forms an integral part of the local retail environment, will continue operating from a temporary site under the solar panels while its existing location is upgraded to a new permanent market.

For Rondebult, this next chapter builds on an established local community of residents and retailers. Alongside the arrival of national brands, space for independent businesses and market traders creates opportunities for local enterprise to grow. Over time, the centre’s success will be measured not only by its trading performance but by the part it plays in the everyday lives of the people around it.

Trading hours: Monday to Friday 09:00–18:00, Saturday 09:00–17:00, and Sunday and public holidays 09:00–14:00.
