Growthpoint’s 36 Hans Strijdom wins Overall Sustainability Award at SAPOA Property Awards

Growthpoint Properties’ 36 Hans Strijdom in Cape Town has been recognised with two major honours at the SAPOA Property Awards for Innovative Excellence 2026, winning the Overall Sustainability award as well as Interiors Development of the Year.

The awards recognise the extensive transformation of the Growthpoint-owned building, which is home to global investment manager Ninety One’s Cape Town headquarters.

Rather than demolishing and rebuilding, the shared vision of Growthpoint and Ninety One led to the decision to retain and reposition the existing structure, combining a major interior refurbishment with advanced sustainability interventions. The approach significantly reduced embodied carbon while creating a modern, premium-grade workplace.

The building recently achieved Net Zero Carbon Level 2: Occupant Emissions Modelled certification from the Green Building Council South Africa, complementing its 5-Star Green Star SA Design rating.

Timothy Irvine, Head of Asset Management for Growthpoint’s Office portfolio, says: “These awards recognise what can be achieved when sustainability and great workplace design are considered together, and when like-minded property owners and occupiers prioritise environmental stewardship. The project advances Growthpoint’s goal of achieving a carbon neutrality across its portfolio by 2050.
